In 2020, the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag passed a resolution that represented a great opportunity for Thuringia's heritage landscape: the Thuringian Palaces and Gardens Foundation (STSG) was authorised to invest 200 million euros - half funded by the federal government and half by the state - for the restoration of selected monuments in its properties by 2032. The conditions for this were created by the federal and state governments in 2021 with a joint administrative agreement. 13 cultural monuments will benefit from the programme. The STSG is proceeding in 23 individual projects, which enable urgent renovation phases and can be progressed independently of each other.
Friedenstein Palace in Gotha plays a special role - 50 million euros from SIP I will benefit the complex, for which, together with the 60 million euro programme that has been running for several years, a total of 110 million euros is now available. Construction will continue while the museums remain open, even if there may be restrictions. Not only large residential towns, but also rural areas will benefit from the programme.
